Leslie Ann Miller...

Leslie Ann Miller

Leslie Ann Miller has had MS for 34 years.  In that time she has been the Event Director for a long-term care facility, run a Foster Grandparent program, and started her own rehabilitation agency.  “My disability made me more compassionate in my career,” she states.

Since her retirement, Leslie has developed her artistic side.  “My brother gave me some clay one Christmas,” she explains, “and I decided to use it to strengthen my hands.”

From this small beginning, Leslie has branched out into several mediums for sculpture, acrylic paints and even poetry.

“I have frequent exacerbations, so I need to be pretty adaptive and experimental,” says Leslie.  With her three Yorkshire Terriers, Zak, Bessie and Mollie (total weight 13.1 lbs.) at her side, Leslie forges ahead, creating new groups of sculptures.  “I had a ‘suffering’ series,” she says, “that reflects some of my experience with MS.  Now I want to create a ‘joy’ series.”

“I’m always looking for ways to create joy for myself and others,” she continues, “and my yorkies are my little joy-makers.”

We’ve got the suffering down,” Leslie concludes.  “We need to maximize the joy part.”
